New York: U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to withdraw military forces from Syria. The U.S. military had been conducting operations in Syria for a long time. Now, Trump has decided to bring the war to an end.
During Biden’s tenure, the war in Syria was intense. With the recent downfall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime, the U.S. military had been carrying out continuous airstrikes against ISIS and ISIS-affiliated groups in Syria. These attacks were conducted using U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress Bombers, F-15E Strike Eagles, and A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft.
The strikes targeted Islamic State leaders, militants, and camps in central Syria, with over 75 key targets hit. The U.S. position in Syria is unique, as it continues to support the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which oppose both ISIS and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. In support of these groups, the U.S. had been carrying out airstrikes using B-52 Stratofortress Bombers, F-15E Strike Eagles, and A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft.
Earlier, with Assad’s regime collapsing, Israel began occupying parts of Syria. Israel has taken control of key mountainous regions, including the Golan Heights. Against this backdrop, President Trump has decided to withdraw U.S. military forces from Syria. The U.S. military had been conducting operations there for a long time, and now Trump aims to bring an end to the war.
War Background:
In 1974, during a ceasefire agreement with Syria, the Golan Heights region remained under Syrian control. However, following the collapse of the Syrian government, Israel has now taken control of these regions. Taking advantage of the regime change, Israel has brought these territories under its authority. The 50-year-old regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has officially fallen. Reports suggest that with militant groups entering the Syrian capital, Assad has fled. The Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militant group is believed to have played a crucial role in toppling the Assad regime.
Regime Change:
HTS was formed by Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, a military commander with experience as a young fighter in Al-Qaeda. The Syrian military has ordered its soldiers to surrender to militant groups. An official statement has been released declaring the end of the 50-year Assad regime. Reports indicate that Bashar al-Assad has secretly fled to Russia by plane. Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) was the primary militant group fighting against the government in Syria. There were several factions opposing the government, but HTS was the most significant and powerful among them. It is also known as the Levant Liberation Committee.
Many are aware that Al-Qaeda fought against the U.S. in Iraq. HTS was created by Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, who had prior experience as a young fighter in Al-Qaeda. This group initiated an uprising against the Assad government in Syria and has now overthrown the ruling regime.
