He recounted, "I approached Vijayakanth’s friend Ravuthar, expressing my wish to produce a film with Vijayakanth. Thinking he would turn down a high salary offer, Vijayakanth asked for a salary three times higher than his current rate. When I immediately agreed and asked when he needed the advance, he was shocked."

The film in question was "Coolikaran." Initially, the plan was to cast Rajinikanth in the lead role. However, Rajinikanth himself suggested casting Vijayakanth instead, revealed Kalaipuli S. Thanu.
