Amaravati to Host the World's Largest Cricket Stadium
Amaravati: The largest cricket stadium in India is currently located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat – the Narendra Modi Stadium, which is also the biggest in the world. However, the Andhra Pradesh Cricket Association (ACA) has announced plans to build a new cricket stadium in Amaravati that will surpass this landmark.
Under the leadership of Chandrababu Naidu, who assumed office last May, the Andhra Pradesh government has been actively developing Amaravati as the state's capital and implementing various initiatives to boost its infrastructure.
National Games 2029
As part of these efforts, the Andhra Pradesh government is working to host the 2029 National Games in Amaravati. The National Games, held every two years, will bring a significant boost to the state’s sporting infrastructure.
The World’s Largest Cricket Stadium
The Andhra Pradesh Cricket Association revealed plans to construct a cricket stadium in Amaravati with a seating capacity of over 1.32 lakh spectators, surpassing the Narendra Modi Stadium. Once completed, this stadium will be the largest in the world. ACA President Kasineni Sivanth shared this information during a press briefing. He also mentioned that the association has requested 60 acres of land from the state government for the project.
A Massive Sports City
Kasineni Sivanth further explained that the ACA plans to establish a sprawling sports city over 200 acres in Amaravati, with the cricket stadium being a key component. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will provide funding for the project, alongside contributions raised locally within the state.
Cricket Academies and Talent Development
In addition to the stadium, the ACA plans to set up three cricket academies in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Rayalaseema. Renowned former Indian cricketers Mithali Raj and Robin Singh will lead training initiatives at these academies. The Visakhapatnam stadium will also be upgraded with state-of-the-art facilities to host IPL matches. The ACA is taking proactive steps to identify and nurture local talent, with a target of having at least 15 players from Andhra Pradesh feature in IPL teams within the next two years.
