Did Gold Prices Rise This Much in a Single Day?
The attraction towards gold has never diminished among Indians. Especially during wedding seasons and special occasions, people prefer to wear gold jewelry. Additionally, many purchase and save gold as a financial investment for their daughters’ weddings.
Currently, gold prices have reached an all-time high. In 2010, a sovereign of gold was sold for ₹18,000, but by 2025, its price has surpassed ₹60,000.
Gold Prices at an All-Time High
With this unprecedented rise, middle-class families are finding it difficult to afford gold. Gold prices fluctuate daily based on international market trends. On October 31 of last year, a sovereign of gold was sold for ₹59,640, shocking buyers. However, following the U.S. presidential election results, the price dropped by ₹4,000, prompting many to rush to buy gold.
Gold Price Surpasses ₹60,000
Within two months, gold prices surged past ₹60,000 again. On January 22, for the first time in history, the price of a sovereign exceeded ₹60,000. Market analysts predicted further increases in the coming days. However, the Indian stock market decline has impacted gold prices as well.
Sudden Drop in Gold Prices
As a result, gold prices started to decline for the past two days. On Monday, the price dropped by ₹120 per sovereign, followed by another ₹240 drop yesterday, totaling a ₹360 decrease. This brought the price of one gram of gold to ₹7,510 and a sovereign to ₹60,080.
Today’s Gold Price
However, today, gold prices have suddenly surged again. The price increased by ₹85 per gram, reaching ₹7,595, and by ₹680 per sovereign, now selling at ₹60,760. This unexpected rise has shocked those who were waiting to buy gold for weddings in the Tamil month of Thai.
