Climate Change in Europe: 5.8 Million Deaths Predicted by 2099 Due to Rising Temperatures.

A new study predicts that 5.8 million Europeans could die by 2099 due to extreme heat caused by climate change. The research highlights the urgency for climate action and preventative measures to mitigate these potential fatalities, especially in southern Europe.

Climate Change in Europe: 5.8 Million Deaths Predicted by 2099 Due to Rising Temperatures.

A shocking new study has been released, predicting the number of deaths caused by climate change in Europe by the end of 2099.

True Mortality Rate
Scientists from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) estimate that between 2015 and 2099, 5.8 million Europeans will die from excessive heat.

However, the study does not include deaths related to climate events like wildfires and tropical storms, meaning the actual mortality rate could be higher.

Furthermore, the scientists behind this study predict that the deaths linked to cold weather will decrease, while heat-related deaths will increase due to rising temperatures.

Cities Most Affected
Barcelona is expected to experience the highest number of deaths due to heatwaves, followed by Rome, Naples, and Madrid. Dr. Pierre Masselot, a key scientist behind the study, emphasized the urgent need for action to mitigate climate change and address the rising temperatures.

He also pointed out that much attention needs to be paid to the Mediterranean region, where inaction could lead to severe consequences.

Southern European Countries
Dr. Masselot noted that with adequate preventive measures, millions of deaths could be avoided by the end of the century.

As part of the study, Dr. Masselot and his team analyzed temperature and mortality data to estimate future heat-related deaths in 854 European cities between 2015 and 2099.

The research suggests that if greenhouse gas emissions remain high, 5,825,746 excess deaths will occur in Europe. However, cold weather-related deaths, which were estimated at 3,480,336, could be avoided, leaving a net death toll of 2,345,410 by 2099.

The study confirmed that Southern European countries, particularly the Mediterranean region and the Balkans, will be the most severely impacted by extreme heat.
