A New Military Alliance
European leaders have started planning ways to protect the continent from Russian President Vladimir Putin’s influence without heavily relying on the United States. In this context, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada is ready to join a new military alliance formed to establish peace in Ukraine. However, he emphasized that other European leaders must also make such a decision.
Trudeau strongly criticized Vladimir Putin, calling him a liar and a criminal, stating that Putin’s word cannot be trusted under any circumstances. He pointed out that Putin has repeatedly proven his willingness to break any agreements made so far.
Meanwhile, Canada’s High Commissioner to the UK, Ralph Goodale, stated that the objective of the summit held on Saturday was to establish long-term security guarantees that would allow the people of Ukraine to trust in peace as a normal part of their lives.
The London meeting took place amid growing tensions between Russia and Ukraine, reflecting the ongoing power struggle between the US and Russia over control of Ukraine.
Following a tense experience faced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Oval Office in the White House, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reaffirmed his full support for Zelenskyy.
The Trump administration had pressured Ukraine to sign a $500 billion deal related to mineral resources as a condition for ending the war with Russia. However, Zelenskyy rejected this demand, insisting on prioritizing the security of his people and his country. As a result, he was immediately expelled from the White House.
Trudeau later stated that if Russia decided to stop its illegal interference, the war could end as soon as the next day. However, he also reiterated that Vladimir Putin can never be trusted, highlighting several reasons for his stance.
