725,000 Indians Face Deportation from the U.S. – Impact, Reasons & Reactions
Over 725,000 Indians may face deportation from the U.S. as immigration laws tighten. Explore the reasons, official statements, and its impact on affected individuals.

Delhi: The United States continues to deport foreign nationals, including Indians residing illegally in the country. In this context, Congress MP Rajeev Shukla has stated that 725,000 Indians could be deported from the U.S. back to India.
"Yesterday, I participated in a session of the Ministry of External Affairs. During this meeting, it was revealed that the U.S. has identified 725,000 Indians as illegal immigrants and is set to deport them. These individuals have been living in the U.S. for many years, earning well. But now, they have nothing. What will they do after returning to India? From being financially stable, they are suddenly being pushed into poverty," said Rajeev Shukla.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy has also confirmed this development, stating:
"The U.S. is closing its borders to illegal immigrants. We are tightening immigration laws and deporting those who have entered the country unlawfully."
So far, the exact number of deported Indians has not been disclosed, but this serves as a warning to those residing illegally. Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s friendly relations with former U.S. President Donald Trump, the Indian government has not taken a strong stance against the U.S.'s refusal to grant citizenship to long-term Indian residents. The central government has merely responded that returning Indians will have their documents verified before being accepted back.
Indians have contributed immensely to the U.S. economy, working hard for years. Many are now questioning the fairness of labeling them as "illegal immigrants" while reaping economic benefits from their labor.
These deportations did not happen suddenly; American citizens have long demanded stricter immigration policies, arguing that foreigners are taking away their jobs. Responding to this sentiment, Trump had previously promised mass deportations if elected, and now, that promise is being fulfilled.
