270,000 Young People in the UK Remain Unemployed, Says Work and Pensions Secretary
The "Covid Generation" Crisis
UK Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall has stated that around 270,000 young people are staying at home without going to work. She highlighted that the so-called "Covid Generation" faces a unique challenge, as many of them find even the idea of going to work stressful.
According to official data, approximately 270,000 individuals aged 16 to 34 in the UK are unemployed due to long-term health issues and mental well-being concerns. The number of such individuals has increased by 60,000 in the past year alone, as per the UK Work and Pensions Department.
Liz Kendall also pointed out that some of these individuals rely entirely on government financial assistance without attempting to work, emphasizing that this situation needs to be addressed.
