A young man from West Bengal, who had traveled to Bangladesh for a religious event, was shot at by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at the India-Bangladesh border, causing a stir.

The India-Bangladesh border spans a total of 4096 kilometers, and the tensions between the two countries are rising day by day due to various reasons, leading to a tense situation at both borders. As a result, India’s Border Security Force is actively involved in securing the borders both day and night. In addition, the construction of fencing for national security is underway.

In this context, a youth from West Bengal was shot at by BSF personnel while attempting to cross the border into India.

Attempting Illegal Entry: Akhtar Jamal Roni, a resident of Putia village in West Bengal, had been living in India. Last week, he traveled with a woman to Bangladesh for a religious event. After participating in the event, they were returning to India on February 3. On reaching the border, they attempted to break the barbed wire fence.

Argument with Border Security Personnel: At this point, the BSF personnel, who were on duty at the border, tried to stop them from illegally entering India and told them to leave. However, Akhtar argued with them and, in an attempt to disarm the officer, tried to grab the pump-action rifle the officer was holding. As a result, the officer opened fire.

Statement from Border Security Forces: Regarding the incident, the Tripura BSF personnel said, "Akhtar Jamal Roni, along with a woman, attempted to enter our country illegally. They reached the barbed wire fence placed at the India-Bangladesh border and tried to break it. Despite multiple warnings from the BSF personnel, they continued to argue with the officers and even attempted to grab the officer's pump-action rifle. In self-defense, the officer fired his weapon. As a result, Akhtar was injured, and the woman fled to a nearby village. Akhtar was later admitted to a hospital in Agartala and is receiving medical treatment."
