Tamil Nadu Students Appeal for Trilingual Education Rights: Viral Video Sparks Debate
A viral video featuring government school students from Tamil Nadu appealing to the Chief Minister for the right to study under the trilingual education system has sparked widespread debate. The students question why they are denied this opportunity and request equal access. Following the video's circulation on social media, education officials launched an investigation to trace its origin, revealing that a parent recorded and shared the clip. The incident has stirred political discussions, highlighting concerns over education policies and social media influence.

A video of government school girls appealing to the Chief Minister, questioning whether they don’t have the right to study under the three-language education system, has gone viral on social media. Following this, education department officials have launched an investigation.
The issue of the three-language education policy has sparked political debates in Tamil Nadu. Recently, a video of three girls from the Tellichathanallur Panchayat Union Middle School near Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district, appealing to the Chief Minister regarding this policy, has been widely circulated online.
In the footage, the students express, “Salutations to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.”. As students of government schools, don’t we have the right to learn under the three-language system? We are underprivileged students. Please grant us the opportunity to study three languages in government schools.”
As the video gained widespread attention, officials, led by Paramakudi District Primary Education Officer Sethuraman and including local education officers, questioned the school’s headmaster, teachers, and students to identify who recorded the video.
According to education officials, “It was found that the father of the twin sisters featured in the video, both studying in Class 6, recorded the video before school hours and circulated it on social media. The third girl in the video, also a Class 6 student, is a relative of the twins. Higher education authorities have been informed of this incident.”
Political Twist
Adding to the controversy, DMK functionary Marichelvam, the father of the third girl in the video, stated, “I am the DMK branch secretary of Tellichathanallur. My daughter was taken to the school, and BJP supporter Vibudhiswaran made her stand with his two daughters and scripted the video. He then shared it on social media. As a ruling party member, I would never act against government policies. He included my daughter to avoid the video appearing biased if only his daughters were shown. My family and I have condemned his actions directly.”
