Junagarh Fort: Secrets, Treasures, and the Historic Aircraft Inside Bikaner's Ancient Landmark

One such fort is the Junagarh Fort in Bikaner. This fort houses 9 palaces, and it is said that even today, there are treasures of gold and silver hidden within its walls. The fort's strength was such that it withstood many attacks from enemies, but they were never able to conquer it. Multiple attempts have been made to retrieve the hidden treasure in this fort, but no one has succeeded.

The foundation for this fort was laid by Maharaja Rai Singh in 1645 during the reign of Emperor Akbar. A deep moat surrounds the fort, and red sandstone was used to construct it. Maharaja built this fort to protect the capital city. Several techniques were used in the fort's construction, keeping it cool even during the summer months.

Inside the fort, there are secret passages and many caves, making it impossible for any enemy to attack the palace.

Rulers Who Built Palaces Inside Junagarh Fort
Upon realizing the fort's strength, every ruler who came to power in Bikaner built their own palaces within this fort. Some of the palaces within Junagarh Fort include Anup Mahal, Sardar Mahal, Joravar Mahal, Karna Mahal, Raising Mahal, Ganga Colony, Rathan Colony, Sujan Colony, and Gothi Thungar Colony. At first, Junagarh Fort was known as Sindhamani Fort or Bikaner Fort, but it was later renamed Junagarh, which translates to "Old Fort."

Mystery of the Hidden Treasure in the Fort
The secret of the treasure hidden inside Junagarh Fort remains unsolved to this day. A few years ago, gold biscuits were discovered from the fort's moat. According to locals, Maharaja hid treasures in various parts of the fort, and it is believed that they are still buried within it. The mystery of this treasure remains unknown.

An Aircraft Inside the Fort
There is an aircraft inside the fort, which was used by the British Army during World War I. Even today, this plane stands inside the fort. The British gifted this aircraft to Maharaja Ganga Singh. This plane has been here for several decades.

To visit Junagarh Fort, one needs to purchase a ticket for Rs. 50, with a discount of Rs. 20 for students. Foreigners are charged Rs. 300 for entry. The fort remains open for visitors from 10 AM to 4 PM.
