In the 2025-26 budget, the Indian government has allocated ₹2,55,445.18 crore to improve Indian Railways as part of its continuous efforts. Of this, ₹3,445.18 crore is earmarked for revenue expenditure, and ₹2,52,000 crore for capital expenditure. This funding has been distributed state-wise. For the 2025-26 Railway Budget, the Ministry of Railways has received an unprecedented capital allocation of ₹2.65 lakh crore. The focus areas include:

This initiative aims to boost the performance of Indian Railways, already the world’s fourth-largest rail network.

Expanding Long-Distance Connectivity

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the 2025-26 budget emphasizes the ongoing enhancement of railways with plans such as:

• Production of 17,500 general coaches
• Manufacturing 200 Vande Bharat and 100 Amrit Bharat trains

These developments aim to improve long-distance connectivity across India.

New Projects and Infrastructure Expansion

The budget includes new projects worth ₹4.6 lakh crore, focusing on:

• Construction of new routes
• Doubling and quadrupling of tracks
• Redevelopment of stations
• Construction of bridges and tunnels
