International Mother Language Day: Celebrating Linguistic Rights and Cultural Heritage Since 2000
Celebrate International Mother Language Day on February 21, honoring linguistic rights and cultural heritage. Learn the importance of mother tongue education, language diversity, and UNESCO's emphasis on multilingual learning.

On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, BJP State President Annamalai has shared a post on his X (formerly Twitter) platform.
The published post reads:
"International Mother Language Day has been observed on February 21 since the year 2000 to safeguard the linguistic rights of all individuals."
Our thoughts and creativity are expressed through our mother tongue. When education is imparted in the language a person speaks, it enhances their thinking ability. Therefore, primary education must be taught in one's mother tongue.
UNESCO, the global organization of nations, emphasizes multilingual education through mother tongues and has stated that learning in one’s mother tongue is a fundamental right. In line with this, the new education policy introduced by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasizes primary education in the mother tongue up to the fifth grade.
In today’s digital world, connecting languages and creating opportunities to learn multiple languages is essential. Let us use our mother tongue, Tamil, as the foundation to learn many languages and make the world aware of the greatness of the Tamil language," he stated.
